Following the immense reception of Blue Light and the resonant narrative of his previous works, Soul Wun returns to Gallery Recordings with a brand new album, 'Kaleidoscope’. This album explores Soul Wun’s sophisticated sound, drawing inspiration from a broad spectrum of cultural pockets - from the swing of jazz to the depth of the UK underground.

'Kaleidoscope' has been a joy seeing the album come to life since Soul Wun first wrote the bones of it 12 months ago locked in a cabin in Lorne, no phone, no external comms, just a month of head noise resulting in a beautifully introspective record. It's a record full of joy, happiness, positivity and love. This record signifies Soul Wun’s momentary departure from the intense depth of his previous work. Moving into the true freedom of his forthcoming music.

In the words of Soul Wun, “I think a lot of this record was me coming to terms with the fact that I really don't fit into this world. I got to a point after working an office 9-5 whereby I was at a serious end. I quit my job and packed up my stuff and left Sydney. The only thing I knew was that I had a place to stay in Lorne on the great ocean road for exactly one month. So I fucking locked in harder than I ever have. I wrote 18 songs in entirety in just under 3 weeks. The best of these songs made up Kaleidoscope. I knew deep down this would be my lifeline.

Only getting out for a dawn swim and then manically working on music for 10+ hours. I would write my plan for the day. Breaking the day into three parts; morning session, lunch, afternoon session. The premise of each session, I had to write a track from scratch, save it and not look at it again until the end of the month. This drove me to the point of relative insanity. I got so inside my head and the obsession that I became manic.

I think the sound captures the essence of the hope I had. The deep-seated trust that this would work and the feeling of complete freedom as I opened my mentally unsound wings and fluttered down the Hume into this new and exciting life free of the shackles of the capitalist dogs that enslave us. This music was born from the essence of creativity and nothing more. Throwing sound at each other with no reference to technicality or theory or correctness and allowing the music to form with no resistance.”
